MONTREAL, Canada, Nov. 19, 2024 — The Notre-Dame Basilica has been towering over Montreal’s Place d’Armes Square since its completion in 1829. Every day, tourists from around the globe get in line to visit it while buskers fill the air with classics, from The Beatles to Céline Dion, accompanied by the splish splash of the Maisonneuve Monument fountain in the background, creating an iconic Montreal scene.
Renowned for its Gothic Revival architecture, stained-glass windows, and famous blue ceiling adorned with stars, symbolizing paradise, the Basilica attracts millions of tourists yearly and remains at the #1 spot of most “things to do in Montreal” lists.
The landmark keeps up with the times by hosting various concerts and the multimedia AURA experience. This show uses light and music to allow visitors to see the Basilica in a different light, literally, and attract younger crowds.
Since 2020, the Basilica has been undergoing a massive $50 million restoration, which is set to be completed by 2040.
