(CHICAGO) – The Chicago Transit Authority is one of the latest major agencies to mandate COVID-19 vaccinations for their employees in the United States.

The deadline for workers to get their vaccination was October 25th. If employees did not receive the vaccine, their jobs are at risk.

Responsible for four million rides weekly, the bus and L require all riders to wear a mask on CTA property.

The Click was not able to speak with a representative of the transit authority, but in a statement released last month, CTA President Dorval J. Carter said, “From the onset of the pandemic, the CTA has been an essential service provider for the City of Chicago, and our number one priority has been and always will be the health and well-being of our employees and customers.”

Riders of the CTA have a variety of opinions on the matter, one man who goes by “Johnny” told  The Click, “I think we have the right to go against it, as Americans. I don’t agree with someone being mandated to take a vaccine, that they don’t agree with or don’t have enough information to make a sound decision on whether or not they want to take it.”
