MIDTOWN, MANHATTAN—On Friday, October 29 the Bryant Park Winter Village re-opening signaled the start of a much-anticipated holiday season, after last year’s cancelations and shut downs. The weather outside was far from frightful, but hundreds of people were getting in the holiday spirit as the park welcomed back artisan vendors, tourists, families, nearby residents, and their four-legged pals.
This seasonal tradition invites visitors to shop for one-of-a-kind gifts, grab a bite to eat, and give their ice skating skills a twirl. “I’ve been in years past and it’s always really fun to come, go to the market, and get some food,” said one local New Yorker.
The centerpiece for the Bank of America Winter Village is its 17,000 square foot ice skating rink. It’s the only one in the city with free admission, but you still have to pay to rent the skates. Regular skate rentals run between $15-$45 depending on the date and the time of day. Bank of America cardholders can get a 10% discount when booking online with their card.
COVID-19 safety regulations are also in place. A mask mandate requires all skaters to mask-up on the rink while those on foot must wear a face covering in enclosed spaces. Beyond that, there will also be regular cleaning of high-touch surface areas.
Another crowd favorite is the Village’s European inspired open-air market. Dozens of custom-made kiosks lined the park, housing the designs and creations of different local and international artisans.
It’s a lucrative time of year for those selling everything from scented candles and humorous dish towels to handmade jewelry, artwork, ornaments, truffle oils and everything in between.
Aram Bowen, the sales team lead and brand ambassador for Truffliest said, “We’ve been very busy, it’s been great. It’s already shown that people are back, they’re out, and they’re in the city so, we’re very happy to be here, of course.”
The holiday shops will remain open until January 2, 2022.
