(SAN FRANCISCO) —October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month where many cities in the United States celebrate women who survived or lost their battle to breast cancer.

Last Sunday, a popular event called Making Strides in the Bay Area, marked Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Women throughout Northern California and their families were invited to celebrate those who fought the disease.

Breast cancer has taken the lives of so many, but their names and faces are remembered.

“In 2023, I went to get a mammogram and found out I had a slight cyst in my left breast. I did the surgery, came through like a champ and now I’m a survivor,” said  Sheila, who did not want to give her last name.

“It makes me happy to see I’m not here alone by myself, all of us, men women, children, everybody, it’s a happy time,” she said.
