(Austin, TX) Water is an essential part of our daily lives, it’s not only consumed, but used to cook with, clean and it helps nature grow. That is why Proposition 6 was on the ballot in the state of Texas this last election.
Proposition 6 was voted for with 78% in favor and 22% of Texas voted against it. Proposition 6 will create the Texas Water Fund Amendment and it will assist in financing water projects in this state. This will support different projects that include fixing aging pipes, acquiring more water resources and mitigating water loss. Manager of Government Affairs for the San Antonio River Authority, Brian Mast, says, “the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) has done a fabulous job of keeping their infrastructure up to date, but there are always opportunities for additional investment.”
Proposition 6 will also serve as another type of funding mechanism for all communities that provide their own water and wastewater services and will be able to tap into it for additional funds, Mast said.
But Texans shouldn’t worry about losing their water resources anytime soon. It’s a good incentive to conserve water because it impacts all of us. So do your best to conserve throughout the year, not just during the hot summer months.
A few tips on water conservation: fix leaky pipes, during water restrictions water on your designated day and time, turn the water off when you brush your teeth, and try taking shorter showers.
