(LONDON, England)– A community center in Northwest London has been catering to those who are vulnerable by operating a Malaysian kitchen and running events for children and their families.
Rumi’s Cave, opened to honor the legacy of 13th century Persian poet Rumi, is being run by general manager James Blackmore, who converted to Islam 16 years ago.
The community center aims to bring people of all faiths together to connect and help others who are struggling.
Regarding the center’s goals, Blackmore said, “It’s all about building a community for everyone, that everyone can take part in. We’ve got a Malaysian restaurant downstairs and everyone likes Malay food, so food brings people together. Tea, coffee, and other events, people just come here sometimes. Some of our guests here are homeless or low-income and they just sit down and have a chat. People are not just suffering from food poverty but also social poverty.”
Rumi’s Cave aims to continue widening its outreach, aiding more of the London community.
