(DOHA, Qatar)— Crowds from Qatar’s diverse society gathered on the 26th of April to celebrate the grand opening of Zain Textiles in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
Zain textiles opened it’s first store in London in 1994. Specializing in fine fabrics like French Silk Chiffon, Swiss Printed Voile and embroiderers, the shop has served customers all over the world but is only now expanding to the Middle East, with a location just opened in Doha.
Founder Ashraf Dada and his son in-law Hamza Al-Akku chose to open in the Alsadd area amongst an abundance of tailors and other fabric stores. “I am nervous after all these years as well, because I want them to do very well here, establish themselves in Doha. And also to know the people” Dada said the day before the opening. “After all these years, the range of fabrics that we have brought here is like my entire life’s experiences and expertise in this field. And I brought it all together to its finest pinnacle. And it has been perfected to the taste of the people”
Hamza moved to Qatar 7 years ago as a teacher alongside his wife and three children. The decision to open the new branch came after Hamza decided to shift careers and take a stab at something new. He spoke on his vision to the Click “we’re working with young people… those who are involved in arts, fashion, crafts, to come here and use this not just as a store to purchase fabrics, but…a community space for them to do workshops, fashion workshops, screen printing, art related workshop, photography and just get the community involved”
This has been a rollercoaster of a journey to get this store ready. Dada, said in conclusion “’I am extremely proud. In fact, I was sitting outside the other day and the lights were on in the shop and everything. It brought a tear to my eye.’’
