The Water Authority of Great Neck on Long Island is on guard for cyberattacks amid the war with Iran.

Concerns over a possible cyberattack in Great Neck began when a water district in Pennsylvania was hacked. The message read “You have been hacked. Death to Israel.”

Several companies in the Middle East including in Israel have also been successfully targeted.

Great Neck is home to both a Persian Jewish and an Iranian community.

Justin Cappos, a professor in the Computer Science and Engineering department at NYU said, “A lot of the water treatment, water dams, and the other infrastructure in America is extremely critical and so any potential attacks are something that we should all be very concerned about.”

The Water Authority of Great Neck declined a request for an interview, citing security concerns.

While no credible threat has emerged, utilities throughout the US are on notice.
