PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MX) – COVID-19 has brought additional requirements for travelers in Mexico needing to either return home or travel through the United States.
Before you can leave Mexico, passengers flying into the U.S. must have a negative antigen COVID-19 test completed at least 72 hours before getting to the airport and give answers to a health questionnaire. If Quintana Roo was your destination, a tourist tax enacted in April 2021 for $11.00 is required to pay for the testing.
Certain airlines, like American Airlines, utilize the app VeriFLY for passengers to create “trip passes” for international flights. Attesting to your current COVID-19 vaccination status is a required field.
The Click spoke with a traveler named Josh confirming the preparations needed to enter the United States for a layover back to Nassau, Bahamas, “I needed my antigen test, I’m fully vaccinated so, just the test 3 days before the flight. I also needed to do Visitax to exit Mexico—I think it’s 11 USD.”
With a long checklist, travelers must keep us with the mounting requirements to vacation in popular destinations such as Mexican resorts.
The CDC suggests checking the destination country’s current COVID-19 situation and travel requirements before you depart.
