New York City cherry blossoms are now in bloom. The trees will be briefly available to see for admirers until early May.
Two of the most famous locations to see the cherry blossoms are in Central Park and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. While typically the Gardens hosts an annual festival to celebrate the return of the flowering tree, they have canceled this year’s celebration as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, they have announced pop-up events on Saturdays until May 7th.
Those wishing to get more of the cherry blossoms can go to Central Park where there are multiple locations to view the trees. The official Central Park website recommends “72nd Street and 96th Street, with the highest concentrations around the Reservoir, Cherry Hill, Pilgrim Hill, Great Lawn, Cedar Hill, and the area just south of Cedar Hill between 74th and 77th Streets.”
One of the most popular locations is Cherry Hill just west of Bethesda Fountain in the heart of Central Park. With the cherry blossoms ushering in the spring, events are periodically being scheduled that may encourage New Yorkers to get outside.
