After starting to take orders in September, Kookies with a K has gained quite the following. The Denham Springs, Louisiana small business, owned and operated by Kobi Heyl, brought affordable decorative sugar cookies to the area.

Heyl started her own business as a side-hustle while pursuing her full-time job.

“I started practicing almost a year ago, and it was not as easy as it looks, but I just kept practicing and kept trying and eventually, once I got good at it, it’s very therapeutic for me. I really enjoy making them now,” she said.

The idea originated after seeing others sell similar cookies online. Heyl thought “Why not?”, and took the leap to creating her own cookie business ‘Kookies with a K’. The name blossomed from a conversation she was having with her husband. She knew she wanted to spell it ‘Kookies,” but couldn’t decide what to have with it.

“He came up with what about just cookies with a K, like actually all spelled out? And, I was like wait, I love it!”

While balancing her small business with her full-time job is still something she’s trying to figure out, Heyl found that working on the cookies on weekends helps her stay on top of things.

“I usually bake the day before I start decorating,” Heyl said. “This week I have six dozen cookies to make. I have three orders of two dozen. I started baking on Monday and it’s going to take me until Friday to finish them.”

Many things go into making and creating her cookies, and decorating is her favorite part of the process. Clients will send Heyl their event invitation or the inspiration they want for their orders.

“If they don’t do that, I just look up my own inspiration usually on Pinterest or on social media somewhere.”

Heyl used platforms like Youtube and TikTok to learn the techniques of decorating sugar cookies, while shopping from different creators Amazon storefronts for the different tools she needed.

“I’m mostly self-taught [from] just watching those different videos, and it just took a lot of practice,” she shared.

Traditional iced cookies start at $30 a dozen, and custom cookies start at $35 a dozen. Orders can be placed through the ‘Kookies with a K’ Facebook page or through email

The Vanishing Teen Reader

Over the course of two decades, the teen magazine has quietly disappeared, replaced with digital imitators. One by one, the anchor publications of girlhood disappeared from newsstands. CosmoGirl! folded in 2008. Teen People ended its print run two years earlier. Elle Girl shut down its U.S. edition. Seventeen reduced its print presence to a handful of special issues before going mostly digital. Rookie, the teen magazine built by a teen, shut down in 2018. By the late 2010s, Teen Vogue had also gone digital-only, later folded deeper into the larger Vogue brand in 2025.
