(PENSACOLA, Fla.) — Pensacola icon Phil Thomas Katt takes us through his unconventional journey as a radio DJ to buying a public answering machine line, “The Kattline.” From his living room, he’d broadcast music, leave silly messages, and play fan shoutouts. As the line grew a cult following, he started a segment called “The Uncharted Zone” to showcase regional musicians.

After buying airtime on his local public access TV station, Phil decided to upload The Uncharted Zone onto YouTube, where he produced music videos for himself and other artists. Once fellow Pensacola musician Mark Gormley became a featured artist, his music videos would go viral online, eventually skyrocketing his music and Phil’s show into a global phenomenon.
