The Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium has lain vacant in Northeast D.C. since 2017. As demolition proceeds and Congress deliberates on returning ownership of the site to the city government, Mayor Muriel Bowser is advocating for the construction of a brand new stadium that will ideally house the Washington Commanders. However, the city’s suffering public services – rent support, employment programs, public schools – and lacking yearly budget have caused many to question the necessity of a new stadium. Community organizers and advocates make the case against the construction.
