About
Who We Are
Journalists in the making. Stories that matter. A student-powered newsroom.
The Click is the graduate publication of NYU’s American Journalism Online (AJO), an online master’s program training the next generation of professional journalists and storytellers.
Launched in 2019, The Click is a live newsroom where AJO students work with instructors and professional editors to pitch, report, and publish stories in multiple formats. Here, they build skills, confidence, and a portfolio to advance their careers.
The Click reporters cover stories in person across the US and around the world, including Latin America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. They bring diverse perspectives as professionals, career changers, watchdogs, and multimedia storytellers, reporting on pressing issues and trending topics reflecting their interests and those of the communities they cover.
Our Mission
Our mission is to prepare emerging journalists for today’s media landscape by offering:
- professional-grade newsroom experience.
- personal mentorship from editors who are active journalists.
- opportunities to produce hands-on, deadline-driven stories.
- space to develop a strong, publish-ready portfolio.

Click Reporters
The Click is reported, written, and produced by enterprising AJO students pursuing their master’s degrees in journalism. Meet our current reporters and former reporters who have gone on to be published everywhere from The New York Times to the Los Angeles Times to Al Jazeera English, Slate and National Geographic.
Our Policy on AI Use
At The Click, every story is reported and written by our student journalists. Because AJO is a writing program, students are expected to develop their own craft. AI is not permitted to generate outlines, drafts, or polished writing. In limited cases, such as visuals, background research, or idea generation, students may use AI with permission from their instructors. When AI is used, we require transparency: its role will be clearly cited so readers understand how the content was produced. This reflects our commitment to integrity, accountability, and the values of journalism.
For example: The Click Editorial Staff (ironically) used ChatGPT to help generate ideas for what to say in their AI Statement. However, while the ideas may have been artificially generated, the composition was entirely human.
